No they are not. But a better question to ask is: what filter can your hvac system handle? High levels of air filtration is desirable but due to poor duct design and oversized hvac equipment your system may not be able to handle a high quality filter. It comes down to the static pressure in your system. Too high a pressure and you can prematurely damage components like your heat exchanger and blower motor. Every filter creates some increase in static pressure. The higher the filter rating the more restriction it adds to the system. The dirtier the filter the more restriction it adds as well. Your average furnace filter should be replaced at least every three months to avoid this. The bottom line is that without knowing what your system can handle it’s a shot in the dark whether or not your system can handle a better filter.
